Hoysala temple with Garuda herostones

Small little temple with main deity as Shiva and with Ganesha and Subramanya idols. There is also a Parvathi idol installed without a separate altar.

The main attraction of this otherwise unostentatious Hoysala temple are the presence of three marvellous Garuda Lenka Kumbhas, which celebrate the sacrifice of subjects who gave up their lives when their ruler, the king, died. The names of the dead were inscribed at the base of these pillars - very clearly visible on one of them and eroded on the other two.

The other attraction of this temple are a row of veeragalus (hero stones) neatly mounted, which depict scenes of battle and the slain ascending to heaven. There is one spectacular larger veeragalu that has been installed in a mantap of its own.

There is an arch on the main access road that leads into the village road. Other temples in the area include a Bachamma temple, a Venugopalaswamy temple and a Bhairava temple by the side of the lake.

The priest at the Hunasesheshwara temple is a nice man, very courteous and helpful.
