Kumaraswamy temple is one of the most underrated temples around Hospet. At a driving distance of 40kms from Hospet, this Hindu mythological shrine is comfortably located on top of Krauncha Hill/Kumaraswamy Gudda. The way towards the hilltop is full of speed breakers and beware if you are traveling in a car with less than 170-175mm ground clearance.

There are two very ancient temples located here on the same premises;
1. Kumaraswamy Temple (Hindu God of War and son of Parvati and Shiva)
2. Parvati Devi Temple

The locals and the art historians believe that the Parvati Temple is from (the 7th-8th century). The Parvati temple was built by the Badami Chalukyas, and, the Kumaraswamy temple was constructed during the rule of the Rashtrakutas in the 8th-10th century. As most temples go even this undiscovered shrine was obscured until it was later discovered by the local rulers, called the Ghorpades, on Swamimale hill in the late 15th century. Since the temple is well maintained and the habitat has been preserved only to be destroyed in the early 2000s.

I would suggest anybody visiting Hampi, to make a half-day trip here and then experience an excellent lunch at the Shivavilas Palace.

The complete mountain range here is known to be made up of volcanic eruptions and is rich in mineral deposits(especially Ferrous/Iron). Due to mindless mining in this area and transporting the raw material without covering the trucks/lorries the roads, et cetera are covered in red sand. It is resulting in major habitat destruction.

This temple is over a 1000 years old , the drive to the temple is through a very dusty concrete road as there is iron ore mining taking place at the hills along the route. Lot of trucks on this route so please be careful of them. Be prepared for your vehicle to turn red in colour with all the red mud dust it gathers along this drive to the temple. The temple is nice , considering the age many of the stone carvings have eroded and so has the external structure of the temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Subramanya and the Goddess Parvathi . There is also a shiva lingam with a brass serpents hood above it. One can do a quick visit to this temple if you a visiting Sandur.

Very old temple.
This temple was built in 12th century.
A must see place in and around Bellary.

Don’t forget to visit Harishanker temple which you would see while returning from there.

There are few good resorts in Sandur. Mountain view resort is one of them.

Krauncha Giri is a small settlement in Karnataka, India, about 10 km from Sandur in Bellary District. It is notable for two ancient Hindu temples which are in the same compound, and are both protected monuments. The more famous in religious terms is the Kumaraswami Temple (8th-10th century), believed to be the first abode in south India of Murugan or Karthikeya, the Hindu god of war, son of Parvati and Shiva, and brother of Ganesha. To art historians the Parvati Temple beside it (7th-8th century) is the more unusual in terms of Hindu temple architecture.

1200 year old temple for Lord Muruga & Parvati amidst thick forest & surrounded by mountains, Iron ore deposits. Imagine the local population living along with wild animals in those days. Even today they spot wild life. Protected monument, well maintained. Absolutely thrilling experience.Nearby a small equally ancient Siva temple where you can find 24×7 running water stream.🙏

Sri Kumaraswamy temple, located at Sandur which is around 60kms away from the city ballary which is in the state of Karnataka. One of the very oldest temple. Temple is surrounded by vast area with mountains. Main god in this temple is Lord Murugan and Goddess Amman. One could feel the difference in the change of atmospheric temperature ❄️ once after entering into the temple,. The place is to be very cold inside the temple though during the midday of hot sun.
Here the another special is the holy powder (வீப்பூதி) which is light pink in color and taste good., This holy powder will be available in and around the moutains surrounded around the temple. If you dig the moutain you will get the holy powder,. Temple is surrounded by trees and herbs. They are maintaining a garden with various varieties of 🌹 rose flowers.
Have to be cautious while driving upon the moutain reason is lots of mud trucks are going all the time, roads are with big, big spead breakers. Uuufffff.
Must visit if happened to travel over here. Recommended strongly
