Recently we went to see the famous Jyothirling famous shrine of Baba Baidyanath Mandir located at Deogarh, Jharkhand State. We started from Gaya and covered nearly 295 kms to reach this place. The roads are in good condition and we did not feel tired in spite of travelling nearly for six hours. The way goes through forest area and you will surely enjoy the scenic surroundings filled with dense greenery. Here and there you may find a wayside canteen. We saw many tribals leading their cattle and carrying loads on their heads. As it was an auspicious day many women stopped our vehicle and demanded some amount as a gift. Deogarh is a small town with many worth-seeing places like Satsang Ashram, Naulakha Temple, Jain Temple, Nav Durga Temple and Trikuti Mandir. When we went to the temple by auto, we saw thousands of tribal devotees dressed in orange-colored clothes, carrying flowers, Bhel leaves, flowers and small water-pots. The queue is very long going up to five or six kilometers. When we enquired someone he told us that we could avail special darshan by paying Rs.500/- per each person and that we have to take the help of a pundit. After paying the amount the priest took us through some narrow passage and we were in the sanctum within a few minutes. As the pundit made the way we joined the common crowd. There was a heavy rush and people forcefully vied with one another to pour water and touch the sacred shiva lingam. We were literally pushed away without having a chance to touch the Lord. We thanked God for not getting trod upon by the aggressive crowd. The pundit who disappeared at the temple entrance appeared before us to claim his extra dakshina when we came out of the temple. It was a pitiable sight to see so many thousands of people waiting for hours and hours just to get a momentary darshan of the Lord. So it would be better to arrange a counter and provide darshan for all by collecting a nominal fee. This will prevent middle men from collecting hefty amounts from the devotees and providing quick darshan by dubious methods. Volunteers should be appointed to regulate the queue and control the unruly crowds. Only ten people may be allowed inside the temple at a time to prevent overcrowding. The temple surroundings should be maintained clean. Clear Sign boards may be set up so that pilgrims may easily find the way to go to the temple. If systematic arrangements are made, this temple will surely become one of the most famous pilgrimage centers.

Jayadurga Temple at Baidyanath is the place where Sati’s Heart had fallen. Here Sati is worshipped as Jai Durga and Lord Bhairav as Vaidyanath or Baidyanath. The Shakthi Peeth is popularly known as Baidyanath Dham or Baba Dham. Since the heart of Sati fell here, the place is also called as Hardapeetha. Lord Bhairav as Vaidyanath is worshipped as one of the important twelve Jyotirlingas.

Within the campus, Jayadurga Shaktipeeth is present exactly opposite to the main temple of baidyanath. Both the temples are connected by red colored silk threads in their tops. There is a belief that the couple who binds these two tops with the silk will have a happy family life by the blessings of Lord Shiva and Parvathi..

Baidyanath Shakti Peeth is the not just a Shakti Peeth, but also, an auspicious place where a person gets relieved from disease of leprosy. It is believed that the person who visits this place, he gets freedom from all sorts of disease and all kinds of sins. Bad or negative thoughts are removed from a person’s brain. Individual gets a spiritual growth. Hence, it is called Baidyanath..

It is one of the Shaktipithas. Here heart of Mata Sati falls and so the Lord shiva shrine was established at this very place by Lord Vishnu. In temple two stone statue is established. One is of Maa Parvati and other one is of Maa Durga. It is the second most crowded temple after the Baba Temple (Main Temple) in the premises of Baba Baidyanath dham. The top of this temple is tied with the top of the Lord Shiv Temple with red sacred thread
