Baralacha La or Baralacha Pass is one of the five high altitude mountain passes situated on the Manali - Leh highway. The altitude of Baralacha Pass is about 16,040 feet or 4,890 meters above mean sea level. This pass received heavy snowfall during winters. This is the second pass after Rohtang pass from Manali side on this highway to Leh. It can get very cold and windy up here.

Baralacha Pass is where I got hit with AMS badly. When you start with a lower altitudes like Manali and get a climb to Rohtang which is not as high as Baralacha, things are still under control. But the sudden climb to 16,000 feet with cold winds, you might get a feel that this is the best weather one can enjoy on the motorcycle and that’s when it hits you. Make sure your jacket is zipped up and you have taken Diamox pills from last 2 days so it becomes easier to do this pass. Don’t stay on top for too long. In case you’re hit by AMS then the closest option is Bharatpur Tent Colony where u can get some rest.
