We visited this place in the morning. This place is around 30 KM from the our hotel. There is an ample space for parking.
The murti of Lord Dattatreya is really very impressive. There are regular aartis taking place here at Guru Dattatraya temple as well as in Samadhi mandir of Swamy Maharaj.
Garudeshwar is a pilgrim site with a holy ghat on the banks of Narmada Maiya. The ghat is very beautiful and clean. We took blessings of Narmada Maiya from this ghat.
Mothe maharaj - tembe Swamy's samadhi place is in the same vicinity.
The small Shri dutt murti that is in the temple, is said to use to speak to mothe maharaj and mothe maharaj used to carry it with him whenever he uses to go for expeditions and parikrams.
Narmada ghat is total bliss
You can enroll for the evening Prasad /khichadi for 50/- at the office around 6-6:30pm.
In the early twentieth century, the was a famous sage with a long and complicated name of Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya Sree Vasudevananda Saraswathy Swamy Maharaj. He was a devotee of Lord Dattatreya during his wanderings he preached the ways of the ancient Vedic path and lead the people gone astray from varnashrama dharma due to his teachings and sainthood he had a great following.
In the last year of his life, he reached Garudeshawar where there was a small temple where Garuda is believed to have done penance.
It was here that the saint took samadhi and left for his heavenly abode. As per the info board installed at the temple Vasudevananda Saraswathy Swamy Maharaj wanted the Dattatrey idol with him to be sent to Narsobavadi or Ganagapur. He gave this job to Shri Ganda Maharaj. Lord Dattatreya appeared in the dream of Shri Ganda Maharaj and told him that he wanted to stay at Garudeshwar, so Gonda Maharaj and followers of Vasudevananda Saraswathy Swamy Maharaj built a Datta Samsthan and temple. at this location.
Garudeshwar Datta Mandir is located on the bank of River Narmada and owes it existence solely to the samadhi of the Saint. It is a small and very simple temple. There is not much to recommend about Gurudatt temple.
A weir has been constructed across the Narmada River very close to Samadhi and temple location. Due to its location, it is called Garudeshwar weir.
The view of the Garudeshwar weir and Narmada is good and makes the trip worthwhile to some extent.
