Department of Museums and Zoos is functioning under the Administrative Control of the Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Kerala. It has the Directorate, Museums, Galleries, Botanical Garden as well a Zoological Park in Thiruvananthapuram City and two regional institutions viz.

Thiruvananthapuram Museums & Zoo owe its orgin to the joint efforts of Mr. J.A. Brown, former Director of Thiruvananthapuram Observatory, and General Cullen, a former British Resident. A committee was formed in 1855 with the Maharaja of Travancore as patron, General Cullen as President, the Elaya Raja as Vice President and Mr. Allen Brown as Secretary of the Committee and the Director of Museum.

Museum is situated on the Museum compound in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city. Built in the 19th century, Kerala’s rich cultural heritage is on display at the museum. It contains a host of historical artifacts including bronze idols, ancient mammals, a temple chariot and ivory carvings. The museum has been named after the former Madras Governor-General John Napier. The Natural History Museum also situated on the Museum compound, has come excellent exhibits like the skeletal bird, animal and taxidermy galleries.

Visiting Hours: Open 10:00 - 16:45 hrs.

Peaceful and totally worth exploring here. Have so much to do here - zoo, museum, children's park, cafeteria.
Clean and well maintained parks. Also contains e-toilet and normal toilet facilities.

Zoo contains different varieties of species. In the reptiles section, the new one is ANACONDA, I think.

I love this place. Have so many this to explore here and make a day relaxing ❤

Recommend to one day tours.👌
