Detailed Note on Major Divisions of Economics & Statistics and Their Work

*Establishment of an Agency for reporting Agricultural Statistics (EARAS)*

The scheme Establishment of an Agency for Reporting Agricultural Statistics is a 100% Central Sector Scheme. This scheme is a component of the main scheme  Improvement of Agricultural Statistics (I.A.S), which is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, Government of India.

*PRICES DIVISION*

Price Division of the department collects various types of price data at Taluk and District level.  After scrutiny and compilation, they are forwarded to the Central and State Governments and to other agencies for the purposes of Policy decision, Planning, Research and to watch daily price movements.

*National Sample Survey*

Kerala State has been participating in the National Sample Surveys from the very beginning with matching samples to provide more disaggregated results at regional level.

*Civil Registration System*

The main objective is to provide reliable estimates of birth rate, death rate, infant mortality rate etc. for the rural and urban areas of the state.

*Agriculture Census*

Department of Economics and Statistics is the nodal agency for conducting Agriculture census in Kerala.

*Cost of Cultivation*

The main objective of this survey is to estimate the per hectare cost of cultivation of important crops in Kerala.

*Evaluation Section*

This division conducts annual evaluation study of the schemes implemented by the Soil Conservation Department.

*Index of Industrial Production*

IIP measures the changes in the industrial production and the general level of industrial performance in the economy.

*Economic Census*

Economic Census is a periodic count of all the economic entities functioning within the geographical boundaries of the country.

*Annual Survey of Industries*

ASI survey is being conducted every year to measure and assess the growth of Kerala’s industrial sector.

*Basic Statistics For Local Level Development (BSLLD)*

To strengthen Local Administration and to envolve fruitful projects for better development at grass root level.
