History of Hindustan Petroleum :-

1952 : The company was incorporated as Standard Vacuum Refining Company of India Limited on 5 July 1952.

1962 : The name of the company was changed to Esso Standard Refining Company of India Limited on 31 March 1962.

1974 : Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited came into being from the merger of the erstwhile Esso and Lube India ventures.

1978: Coltex Oil Refining Limited was merged with HPCL in 1978 after it was taken over by the Government of India.

1979 : Kosan Gas Company, a subsidiary of HPCL in the domestic LPG market, was merged with HPCL.

Thus HPCL came into existence through the merger of four different organizations at different times.

हिन्दुस्तान पेट्रोलियम मुंबई मे अपने स्वामित्व मे ल्यूब बेस ऑयल (स्नेहक हेतु आधार तेल) का उत्पादन करने वाली भारत की सबसे बड़ी ‍परिशोधिका (रिफाईनरी) का परिचालन करती है। 3,35000 मीट्रिक टन क्षमता वाली यह रिफाईनरी भारत के कुल ल्यूब बेस ऑयल उत्पादन का 40% का निर्माण करती है। इसके अलावा कंपनी के स्वामित्व मे सात ल्यूब ब्लेंडिंग प्लांट (स्नेहक मिश्रक संयंत्र) हैं जिनमे से 3 मुंबई मे और एक-एक संयंत्र क्रमशः बजबज, रामनगर, चेन्नई और सिल्वासा मे है। ल्यूब के निक्रमण के लिये एक ल्यूब पाईपलाइन है। इस समय कंपनी 300 से अधिक प्रकार की ल्यूब विशिष्टताओं और ग्रीज़ का उत्पादन करती है।

हिन्दुस्तान पेट्रोलियम का इतिहास :-

1952 : 5 जुलाई 1952 को स्‍टैण्‍डर्ड वैक्यूम रिफाइनिंग कंपनी ऑफ इंडिया लिमिटेड के रूप में कंपनी को निगमित किया गया।

1962 : 31 मार्च 1962 को कंपनी का नाम बदलकर एस्‍सो स्‍टैण्‍डर्ड रिफाइनिंग कंपनी ऑफ इंडिया लिमिटेड कर दिया गया।

1974 : तत्कालीन एस्‍सो तथा ल्‍यूब इंडिया उपक्रम के विलय से हिन्‍दुस्‍तान पेट्रोलियम कॉर्पोरेशन लिमिटेड सामने आया।

1978 : भारत सरकार द्वारा अधिकार प्राप्‍त करने के बाद कॉलटेक्‍स ऑयल रिफाइनिंग लिमिटेड का 1978 में एचपीसीएल में विलय कर दिया।

1979 : घरेलू एलपीजीबाजार में एचपीसीएल की सहायक कोसन गैस कंपनी का विलय एचपीसीएल में कर दिया गया।

इस प्रकार अलग – अलग समय में चार विभिन्न संगठनों के विलय से एचपीसीएल अस्तित्‍व में आया।
