The most remarkable thing about my experience with dental surgeon, Dr. Kunal Shah, is that it was through him I discovered I have diabetes! I had visited a physician about three weeks earlier, but the physician did not suspect diabetes -- but Dr. Shah did and was proved right! I am under treatment for diabetes now -- thanks to the 'bonus diagnosis' by the DENTAL surgeon!

I got to know Dr. Shah through an online resource during the pandemic-induced lockdown. I had severe pain in one tooth and I could also feel a cavity in it. Clinical treatment was not possible at the time due to the lockdown, so I consulted him by phone and online.

Dr. Shah asked me to have a picture of my affected teeth taken by my mobile phone and send it to him by Whatsapp, which I did.

From the picture itself, Dr. Shah diagnosed one tooth as decayed. Pending clinical examination, he prescribed some medicines which gave me almost instant relief from the pain and slight swelling.

When the clinic reopened after a few days, Dr. Shah examined my teeth. He recommended either: 1) removal of the decayed tooth by surgery (simple extraction was not possible in that tooth condition), or 2) root canal treatment with Composite Tooth Restoration. I chose the second option.

The tooth restoration was done in two sittings lasting about two hours each. I could figure out it was a complex procedure, but Dr. Shah (with help from his able assistant) did it so skillfully that there was no bleeding at all nor any discomfort in the mouth (the only discomfort was in sitting on the dentist's chair so long!).

On return home, I took painkillers as advised on the same day. But since there was no pain at all, with Dr. Shah's consent, I even stopped taking the painkillers from the next day.

I am now required to visit Dr. Shah for check-up after three months and thereafter every six months.

As I said above, the most remarkable thing is that though Dr. Shah is a dental surgeon and not a physician, it was on HIS INSISTENCE that I had a diabetes test done because of my age (64). The test result was positive. Dr. Shah postponed the dental procedure until my diabetes was brought under control -- which it was as a second test showed after 12 days (the medicine for diabetes of course was prescribed by a physician). Nevertheless, it was through Dr. Shah that I got to know I have diabetes and am undergoing treatment.

Dr. Shah's clinic is clean and hygienic and all pandemic precautions are taken. His staff is courteous and professional.
