Standing at this gate, the threshold, of entering Mayo College is an emotional experience. The white main building with the statue of Lord Mayo in the foreground assails the senses to leave an indelible awesome vision in ones memory. And this happens every time regardless of how many times! And now if one adds personal, highly charged childhood emotions to the mix, - the elation of going home, - the joy and freedom of a 'going-out-Sunday ', - the slight heaviness of back to school, and the like, crossing this gate always was very very special. Coming back as an old boy, driving up to the warm and friendly salute of the guards, signing in the register, all bring on an elated sense of pride and undiluted joy, again and again, every time! This is one gateway that will always be special to all Mayoites.
