Dutch cemetery in Pulicaut (pazhaverkad) is close to Bus stand . This cemetery was built by dutch and was used between 1751 to 1793. Even though it is good historical place , it is poorly maintained by archaeological survey of India .It seems like tourists are not allowed inside and gates are always closed.

Looks majestic even in dim light. A must visit spot in chennai.
Located very near to the main pulicat town. Get the key from nearby shops to see this. But we visited late After 6 only. So missed going inside

Dutch cemetery . It has 400 yrs of history

The fort was built on the shores of pulicat lake. which provides access to the Bay of Bengal and the coramental cost, an important area for trade and a scene of rivalry between the colonial powers of the Dutch, the Portuguese, and the Bristtish.

Local tradition holds that a Dutch ship, stranded in 1606, found aid among a group of expatriate Muslims, and thus began a trade partnership.

This one is quite obscure spot to visit. Those who have interest in knowing the history must visit this place to have a look on the colonial past of this country. It’s surprising that Dutch also had colonies in India along with the British & French. The grave stones in this cemetery are so finely engraved with the text & pictures that it seems that they are done with laser. There is no sign of deterioration & erosion on the grave stones despite many graves being more than 300 years old. Emblems & crisp text on the graves suggest that high ranking Dutch officials lie buried here. There is even an old well inside the cemetery. The skeletons sculptured on the gate makes it spooky.
