A cemetery in pallikunnu where the history of pre independence in idukki lies underground....

Interesting place, although it needs to be kept up. Perhaps it would be nice for some of the people at the adjacent church (which probably has custodianship of the cemetery) to do a bit of research and put up some information about the people buried there.

There’s evidence of the cemetery being used as a spot to booze up and trash the place.

This is a part of the graveyard of the St. George CSI Church demarked for the British people during the colonial period. There are about 32 tombs including one of a mare called Downy. They had been buried between 1869 and 1962. According to the inscription, the horse belonged to the major planter of the time, Mr. J D Munro. Many of the tombs are damaged and the inscriptions are faded. The place is often visited by tourists and pilgrims.

A visit to the cemetery can be a good experience for those who are interested in history.

This cemetery had been existing here since 1869, presently maintained by CSI Church named St. George Church Pallikkunnu, near Kuttikkanam, under East Kerala Diocese in association with BACSA. Even now grand children and relatives of the individual resting eternally in these tombs. This place has lot of historical significance. Moreover, this location has its own scenic beauty. The British brought many types of saplings from abroad and planted here. A vast pond existing here is giving a great look. These aspects are contributing a high level of ambiance.
