Historic place in Bhimli a place once was under the Dutch rule. This is a Dutch cementry where you find graves of Dutch officers predominantly and apart from Dutch there are few french and British officers graves as well which implies they share the same grave though they were fighting among each other. This is a protected monument by ASI and worth visiting.

Well it's a much hyped place mentioned in the list of things to do when in vizag. It's a very small area with three structure of dume which is there in every image of it when you search in google. If you have some extra time in hand then you can visit this, otherwise not worth it when in a tight schedule. We went there in early morning so our ride from rushikonda to bheemli (opposite to cemetery) was amazing.

The graves that lay here are of relatives and Flag staff of Dutch East India company(VoC) & Some of East India Company. Bhimili was once a Dutch colony estb in 1652, later took over by the British. Also the second oldest municipality after Madras. The Dutch exported rice to their relative colonies in Cylon and other Dutch settlements.Bhimili was a filling station where items were exported. There used to be many colonial building but later on with time they faded. It is the second oldest Dutch cemetery in India. Much of the inscription and symbols on the graves were removed by locals as they were scared off by them.

FLAGSTAFF CEMETERY

AD 1762 to AD 1945 Bheemunipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India

The largest Cemetery in Bheemunipatnam is the FLAG CEMETERY located by the beach. This cemetery takes its name from the signal staff which stands next to it and was used to send signals to the ships travelling ashore for anchoring in the days before modern navigation.

The cemetery dates from 1762, the earliest incumbent being a Dutch infant boy, William Godlib Henck who died on 5th July 1762. There are relatively few Dutch graves here the majority being British, but with some French and other nationalities too in death these nationalities share the same graveyard.

The Flagstaff cemetery is being shared by St. Peter's Church, Bheemunipatnam and St. Ann's Sisters (RCM)

{Step quietly and respectfully among these
graves, it is a memorial to honour those who have gone long before us}.

My Personal Experience:-
We can experience the love and affection that used to be among those past years in between the people and also the patience they have taken to build those stone graves(coffin) for their loved ones.

Overall rating is 5 out of 5.
