Spectacular Temple Complex situated at the heart of Tanjavur at the south banks of Kaveri river

Also called as Rajarajesvaram or Peruvudaiyār Kōvil, has one of the largest Siva Lingas among the temples in India.

Apart from Brihadeswara, other deities like Nandi, Parvati, Kartikeya, Ganesha, Sabhapati, Dakshinamurti, Chandeshvara, Varahi are also situated in the complex.

It is located in South side of kaveri river in Thanjavur.It is also known as Brihadeeshwarar temple. It is one of the largest temple of lord Shiva in India. It is built by the king Rajaraja Chola.There are more sculptures. It is an example of Tamil Architecture.

A saw the same architecture that I saw at Angkor wat in Cambodia. The Brihadisvara temple also known as the Thangai periya koil is the soul of Thanjavur. I wish I had visited this place before going to Cambodia. My heart swelled with happiness and pride to see this structure in my own country. We visited the temple around 5.30pm, this gave us an opportunity to have the day and night view of this beauty. Would suggest every indian to visit this humble UNESCO heritage in our own country!
