Good place to visit with you friends and family. Very close to Bangladesh boarder. It will take around 40 to 50 minutes to reach there from Agartala.

This place has historic monument in very good condition. It gives mesmerizing view in evening. Perfect place for taking photos.

Recently after denudation of a natural forest area, ruins of a brick built building emerged in the north-western part of sonamura sub- division on the edge of the border with Bangladesh.

The local people initially attributed the remains to an ancient temple of Manasa the goddess of snake. Attention was drawn to the Archaeological survey of India and they took over the site.

There an idol of Lord Buddha was discovered and it was confirmed that it had been a Buddha temple.

It was a good weekend visit, just about an hour away from Agartala. The place is well maintained and got lovely views. We also saw a beautiful sunset.

Boxanagar is an ancient Buddhist archaeological site. This is only an hour and a half's drive from Agartala. The site contains a stupa and the remains of a few more meditation centres.
This is one of Tripura's most ancient archaeological sites.
This site is testimony to the Buddhist heritage of large swathes of ancient Bengal. Together with Mainamati, Paharpur, etc. Boxanagar provides a continuum of Buddhist archaeological sites.
The site is well maintained and is a fine place to spend a few hours for a weekend outing.

Place is amazing. Natural beauty, away from city hustle. Perfect for pre wedding photo-shoot etc.
Negative Points:
But sad part is that they don't allow DSLR camera etc. only you have to use mobile camera. I don't understand why... If the place got popular we can generate more revenue.... people from different places will come ..... our benefit only .....
The road conditions, connecting national highway to Buddha Stupa are extremely bad.
So consider those points before planning for a Trip....

Lack of direction, bad approach road and almost non existent info about the place can be a spoiler. The only saving grace is the beauty of the ruins standing amidst a populated hamlet.

Nothing much is known about this place. The architectural pattern doesn't yet prove it to be a Buddhist site. More excavation work needs to be carried out to confirm it to be a Buddhist site.
