It's a very beautiful and serene monastery the route to which is an exit on the main highway up into the hills. There is a gated compound (always open) with a monastic primary school with lots of small monks running around.

The monastery was founded by Gyalstey Rigzin Champo the son of King Tsurphud Namgyal and was completed in 1843AD with construction started in 1826AD. This was after the capital of the Namgyal Dynasty run Sikkim was shifted from Rabdanste, the second capital to Tumlong. It houses a Sakyamuni Buddha statue, a Mahakala statue and a Maha Guru statue.

A small Buddhist monastery. The
last section of road from highway to monastery is in bad shape. A peaceful environment with some great views.

This is a very peaceful - far from the noise of cities - and clean monastery. The silence of the place has a good aura about it as well. This is the oldest monastery in Sikkim that I have come across.

One of the best place I have ever visited. So quiet and so peaceful the place was that I just got lost in the beauty of the place. I would love to go there again and again.
