Baeyn ka kuwan is an ancient historical monument, located in Northwestern neighborhood of Amroha. It's one among the most important archeological sites deserves to be visited.
If anyone is interested to visit the monument, he has to travel 4 km towards Naugawan Sadaat from Amroha, thence to take turn to right and will find this Baika kuwan at a distance of one farlang(200meters) from the road.
During my school days, I had been got a chance to visit this mystifyingly explained place when chcharyon ka mela was being held there. I was so amazed to see this beautifully constructed Islamic architecturally designed site. After retirement from government job, the curiosity in knowing about this fascinating heritage of Amroha, sparked my interest, wanting to find out the history of this hidden monument. This kuwan is so called because of its erstwhile mysterious narrations. Till now there is no authentic historical evidence available about it .some local people believe that this kuwan was built by jinns in a single night. .Now this well(kuwan) have gone dry. Even no board with description of its history ,is erected near this archeological site by Archeological department.
Hence little efforts are being done to open its darkest secrets to the public. While constructing the well and it's adjoining structures ،dressing stone blocks are used, The stair having 30 steps which are 12 feet wides , reaches upto bottom of the well of 15 ft. diameter and 30 ft(approx) depth . There are two baradari type varandas and rahdariyan (passages) on both sides of staircase . The lakhori bricks are used in the walls of inner portion of small passages, while passing through which can cause the fear of darkness.
Renowned historian Mehmud Ahmad Abbasi in his book," Tareekh e Amroha",has narrated , the architectural design of Baika kuwan shows that it was built in the Islamic period and that had got repaired in 1904 during British period.
In " kishware Aulia(Amroha)," Ahmad Hussain Siddiqui has recorded that after the reign of Tomer Rajput in Amroha which ended in 1072, Chauhan dynasty established till 1141 AD. Thereafter kayasth of Suraj Dhaj family ruled here and Renowned Raja kirpanath of this family built many wells in and around Amroha. Before arrival of Muslims ,Tagas ( branch of Gaur Brahmans) had been ruling in and around Amroha. As recorded in 'Tareekh e Amroha", during the period of Sultan Alauddin Khilji (1305AD) , Mongol army entered Amroha from Bijnor sides and looted the population of Amroha and its surroundings and two generals Malik Tughlaq and Malik marched through Amroha to confront the Mongols at the battle of Amroha. Though in fear of future attack from Mongols, a Garrison was established and army was stationed near Amroha by Sultan Alauddin Khilji. Therefore it is possible that such type kuwan (well) might have been built by Khiji army during that period.
